Powdered Milk and Instant Milk--What's the Difference?
THRIVE Powdered Milk is intended for use in cooking and baking. THRIVE Instant Milk, on the other hand, is for drinking.
Directions:
Combine milk powder and water to make delicious THRIVE Instant Milk. Once reconstituted, refrigerate to retain freshness. For best results, refrigerate at least 30 minutes before drinking. Proportions may be altered to suit individual taste.
Water + Powder Yields
1 c + 3 tbsp = 1 c milk
4 c + 3/4 c = 1 qt milk
16 c + 3 c = 1 g milk

Storage Conditions
Temperature: Storing THRIVE at a high temperature can significantly increase the speed that calories and vitamins will degrade over time. In the correct storage container, low-moisture foods such as THRIVE can be stored at room temperature or cooler (75 degrees Fahrenheit or lower) and remain nutritious and edible for years. Our stated shelf life assumes that the product will be stored in optimal conditions.
Humidity: The effects of humidity on a closed can are caused by heat and very similar to the effects of high temperature (see above). High humidity can corrode the cans and in some cases even cause the cans to leak. Areas with high humidity can reduce the opened shelf life of the product. As humidity varies with location please use your own discretion to prevent possible sickness from eating spoiled food.
Damaged Container: Minor dents in the center of the can are usually just a cosmetic issue. However, a can that has been dented near or on a seam can have a compromised air-tight seal and allow oxygen to enter the can. If this is the case we recommend using the dented can within the specified opened shelf life, rather than closed.
The best way to maintain the highest quality of your THRIVE products is to take care of them. If you intend on storing your food for the sealed shelf life, store the cans in a place that is not open to elements such as water, light, and air. Take care of it. Don't expose it unnecessarily to the elements. Also, be sure to keep the temperature and humidity low and even. Under these proper storing situations your THRIVE will maintain its delicious taste, natural coloring, and proper nutrients.

I have never liked instant milk of any kind ...ever... this is really good though.
Made up a qt and now I drink it like regular milk . The really great part is not buying a gallon of milk and it getting a bit sour before I drink it all.
I am very happy with this.I will absolutely buy it every couple of months to make sure I always have enough.Quality

Was very afraid to try, as I HATE powdered milk, and bought this for cooking only. Tried about 1/4 tsp, and it was way good!!! Now I use it instead of fresh. If you make it according to directions (1 c hot water with 1/2 c p milk in blender, then add 3 c cold water to pitcher and refrigerate, I honestly cannot tell the difference! And that shocks me!! (In a good way). Would give a higher rating if I could.

I like my milk with ice cubes in it.
This milk is as good as fresh milk.I like mine with ice in it. So good. I was surprised that I couldn't tell the difference in instant milk and store bought milk. I liks poiled e that I can make what I will need. No more discarding spoiled milk. I will buy this again..

We love this milk at our house. It has saved the day on multiple occasions. the pickiest eater of the family is the baby and even he loves a good tall bottle of THRIVE milk when we are out! I am so glad that I have this on hand at all times.

it's a keeper
Growing up, we had cows, so no store bought milk, or instant milk came into our house. I never knew what instant milk tasted like. My husband grew up on powdered milk mixed with store bought milk, and he didn't like it then, and he says that this milk tastes just like the kind he grew up drinking. Like others, I ran out of milk and mixed some of this up to get by until I could get to the store. I was surprised at how good it was. I am very skeptical about this kind of thing, and had put off making any. Everyone, except my husband, liked it. It's a keeper, and I will be buying more.

Saved the day......
This morning my hubby opened the frig and discovered we were out of his usual soy milk and almond milk---no milk of any kind and he had already poured his cereal! He was all 'down in the mouth' when I remembered I had just received our first #10 can of instant milk so I whipped up 2 quarts of milk in my blender and TADA......my hubby had milk and he was a happy camper! In fact, I've seen him drink two more glasses of milk throughout the day and tonight he said, "This milk is really good!".

Better than the Non-Fat
My husband is very fussy about his milk. I've tried to feed him powdered milk before but he can always taste the difference (tastes a little burnt to him and just off)
I mixed up about 3 cups of this stuff and pulled a bait and switch. Instead of serving him his standard 3.5% milk from the store I served this with lunch. He didn't notice the difference and afterward grabbed another glass and drank it pronouncing it acceptable (high praise for him.) I will be switching my stored milk to this.Quality Patricia 11/14/12

Not the old powdered milk we grew up with...
It used to be that powdered milk was, well, awful. I normally cook with powdered milk. Today I made up some powdered milk and my picky taste buds thought it was awesome. I didn't have to make faces at it and spit it out, which is a good thing if you know what that looks like from me! (Tom Hanks..BIG) I will have to wait for the teenager taste test. Should be interesting.

Tastes just like instant dry milk
After reading the reviews, I was expecting this to taste like a gallon of fresh milk you by in the store. It doesn't, this tastes exactly like the dry instant milk you can by in the store. My can was packed on 09/07/2012.

Old formula New formula???
I panicked because I ordered 1000.00 worth of milk because of the 25 year shelf life~ then I read some reviews that they changed the formula and said it wasnt good as before~Oh No~ because I just bought it~ And it was shipped~~~ because "everyone said it was so fresh tasting ~

Deeelicious!!
As long as its cold, this stuff is as good as store bought milk from the cold case. Its delicious! My kids can't even tell the difference. When we run out of milk and budget is tight, this is just the ticket for milk with cookies, over cereal, in a glass, ect. It also works like a charm for cooking and baking. I've tried a lot of powdered milks and this by far is the best I've had! Highly recommend.

I've tried many times to drink powdered milk and with no success. YUCK! This Instant Milk is THE BEST MILK you've ever tasted!!!!! It tastes and smells like regular milk. If I had not known it was INSTANT MILK, I never would have guessed it! Even the teenage kids enjoyed it!!!!! Enough said....

You can eat this with cereal
Yes that is right. This is the stuff that you can actually drink. Not just cook with. This Instant milk is amazing. I have been pulling it out of the cupboard over and over again when we hit a tight spot in the month, and it works like a charm. I love it with cereal, cookies, or whatever. It tastes almost exactly like the store bought stuff, but just a tiny bit sweeter. My toddler who is very picky had no complaints either.

Please go back to the previous formulation
The first can of instant milk I received and used was wonderful-- very fresh tasting and pleasant to drink-- and I RAVED about it to friends and family How disappointed I was with the second can -- which is the new formulation-- ( fewer servings per can as well) which seems pretty much like any powdered milk I can buy in the grocery store-- it has that weird smell/taste indicative of powdered milk which causes my family to have an aversion to it. We would drink it in an emergency situation and cook with it-- but drinking the new formulation is just not nearly as pleasant as the previous one. sad.

LUV THIS INSTANT MILK
I just received the 'new' instant milk and I can't tell the difference in taste compared to fresh milk from the grocery store. I've used many different brands of instant milk during my 66 years, and this is truly an excellent instant milk...the best I've ever tasted. I will be using Shelf Reliance Thrive instant milk as my drinking and recipe milk exclusively in my home as well as keeping it in my food storage rotation. I think I'll give pantry size cans to my family and friends for Christmas and other celebration gifts so they will have the opportunity to taste this superior tasting instant milk and add this product to their food storage programs.

Amaing! Wow!
I have to admit-- after reading the previous reviews regarding the Thrive Instant Milk, I had high hopes. I am pleased to say that it met my taste test. I am soooo happy to have finally found a milk to have on hand for when I open the fridge in the morning only to find that my teenagers have emptied our milk jug down to the last serving and I DON'T want to go the 20 mile trip to the store to get more. The reconstituted milk tastes very fresh and doesn't have that funky smell/taste that all other powdered milks I have tried. Thank YOU THRIVE. :)

Couldn't tell the difference...
My family and I couldn't tell the difference between this instant milk, the powdered milk offered here, and any other powdered milk (which none of us really like) so we'll still be buying store milk to drink. BUT, this is great for cooking and baking and, in an emergency, I know we'll be happy we have this so into storage it goes!

DELICIOUS!!!
I just received my first Shelf Reliance order and decided to start with the Instant Milk since we live so far away from the grocery and it seems I am always out:) I mixed up a quart using 2/3 of a cup of milk powder and 4 cups of water. I could not believe how good it tasted and it was not even cold! I am really funny about my milk so I was very excited that I not only have this to serve my family but also have put some back for emergencies. The nice thing is I will only mix up what I need so it won't be wasted. Great product and will be ordering for my stock pile:) How long will it last in the refrigerator once mixed up??? Taste like it came from the store and is fat free!!!

Two words. TRY IT.
I have tried many powdered milks/instant milks and I have never liked them! I was honestly SHOCKED when I tried this one. It simply doesn't taste like powdered milk. It tastes (get ready for this), like MILK. My picky son didn't even bat an eyelash. Truly a staple in your pantry.

Hands down this is the best instant milk I have ever tasted. As a consultant for Shelf Reliance I take a quart to each presentation I do and it gets rave reviews every time. It sells itself; all I do is smile and give them the order number! :o)

VERY picky milk drinkers REALLY like the THRIVE Instant milk!
Our normally very picky milk drinkers had no problems adjusting to the instant milk. It was so super easy to make (I found that 4 cups cold water + 1 Cup Instant milk made it just about similar to 1% consistency).
I used a whisk to help dissolve any leftover clumps.
Slowly weaned our family off of the store bought milk by adding 1/2 gallon of instant milk (mixed) into the remaining 1/2 gallon in our store bought gallon of milk.
NO MORE "we're out of milk??!" moments! Especially perfect for those Sunday mornings when the kiddos want cereal and you're all out of milk! :)Quality ADA 8/6/11

Economical for a Family of Milk Drinkers
During the Summer, when the kids are all home, we go through 3 - 5 gallons of milk a week! That's a lot of milk & money! When I calculated the price of the Instant Milk compared to buying the equivalent gallons of milk, it was a money saver hands down. I was iffy on how it would taste so I got to try some at a home party. I tasted like 2% milk from the store!

Won the "Hubby taste test!"
My husband grew up on powdered milk as a child, and hated it! I wasn't crazy about drinking it either, but I did when I had to. Anyway, when I received this with my very first order, I was totally and pleasantly surprised. This milk is very easy to mix up and chill. The taste is really good, just like real milk. I added a touch of real vanilla extract to a half-gallon and it makes this milk delicious. My husband actually enjoys it and uses it on a semi-regular basis.

Mom of 3 boys saves tons!
I use this milk on a monthly basis! If I run out of milk I simply make some THRIVE milk and it holds us over...NO MORE RUNNING to the store for milk! It has saved our family at least $200 a month...not in milk but in random things we buy when we run in for milk...

I am so so pleased with this product....
I usually only buy milk food storage stuff for baking. I hate the taste. I hate the powderiness. But it's useful for baking because you never taste it when it's baked in. So that's why I bought this product.
However, when I tried this product, I was shocked to find that it actually tasted like milk!!!! I know I'm just repeating what everyone said, but you literally cannot taste the difference.
This is a great investment. I don't believe I will ever buy store bought milk again unless I run out of this wonderful stuff.

I have never been able to stomach powdered milk. I bought 2 pouches of this instant milk and thought I would give it a try. I put it in a clean 1/2 gallon milk jug and refridgerated over night and none of my family could tell the difference from the 2% we usually drink. You made me a real believer in this milk. Won the Taste Taste
I held a powdered milk class for a group of people and had them try 5 different types of unlabeled powdered/instant milk. The THRIVE Instant Milk won hands down. It's taste and quality are superior to any out on the market. It is awesome for 72 hour kits because of its flexibility in being mixed into cold water, but as others have said, its great for EVERYDAY use!

I would have never dreamed!!
I bought the instant milk powder thinking it'd be good to have in an emergency, but not for everyday use. Over the Christmas break the kids were using milk like crazy and I decided to secretly test it out on them to see if they would notice the difference. NO ONE noticed out of all five kids!!! I did use more powder than is suggested so that it is richer, which to me makes it even better. I also use filtered water instead of tap water because our town doesn't have good tasting water. This is definitely a product that is well worth it's price! We have totally made the switch to using only this now.

The winner
I ordered cans of instant milk from 3 different companies. and had our extended family, both grownups and children, do a taste test. Thrive was definitely a winner. It mixed up easily and practically no "powdered milk" taste. I later added a little extra powder and really couldn't tell the difference at all from the %1 milk we normally use. I am getting this for my storage.

Unbelievably like the real deal!!!
Trick - Every time I introduce a new storage item to my family - I do not tell them it is from the storage supply - and I usually mix it with store bought the first time I make it!
We were down to our last 1/3 gallon of milk and could not get to the store. I had ordered a can of the instant milk a few months ago, and thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to give it a try... I mixed half a gallon of instant milk with the remainder of the store bought milk - and NOBODY knew any differently. When this had been emptied (the next day), I rinsed out the old "store bought" gallon jug and filled the whole gallon with instant milk and stuck it in the fridge...again, no one mentioned any difference....(very sneeky)!! Our family has teens who usually drink almost a gallon of milk a day - so I was expecting SOMEBODY to question it...
I added 6 cans to my Q plan so I always have some in stock!

We live in the Congo and only used instant milk to drink, for cereal, for Ice cream, and to make yogurt at home. We have tried numerous brands looking for something that is closest to the store-bought milk from the states, and this is the closest we can find. With Thrive, we can actually drink the milk straight (something nearly impossible for us with long-life milk or the other powdered milk). Anyway, this stuff is simply great....I just wish they sold it on amazon so I could get free shipping too!!!

This Is The Best!
I love milk, and I consider myself to be very picky when it comes to milk and the brand I choose. There is just no comparison of this instant milk to the other milks out there on the shelves! It is far, far superior, and I can drink it any time, any day! It mixes up beautifully with cold water - instantly - and no lumps!

Terrific Product
I made an individual, 8 oz. glass of this product last night and it tasted terrific. I could tell the difference between this and the skim milk I normally buy, but the convenience of making a glass at a time rather than wasting expired milk in the jug well offsets the taste difference. This will definitely replace buying pasteurized milk from the grocery store every week for me.

Not bad
I am pretty sensitive to "food storage" foods and the difference in taste between fresh and the canned. I was very weary to try it, but when we made this instant milk I found that it wasn't that bad. I mixed it and let it refrigerate overnight before I tried it. I could definitely tell the difference, but it would be bearable in an emergency situation. I wouldn't just drink it in an everyday situation, but would use it for cooking so that I can rotate.

This is the best instant milk on the market. Blows traditional powdered milk out of the water. My family can't tell a difference between this and store bought "fresh" milk. A must have for LTS [Long Term Storage].
